AGE DIVISIONS

MINI: 8 YEARS OF AGE & YOUNGER

JUNIOR: 9-11 YEARS OF AGE

TEEN: 12-14 YEARS OF AGE

SENIOR: 15-19 YEARS OF AGE

ADULT: 20+

THE AGE DIVISION FOR ACTS WITH MULTIPLE DANCERS IS DETERMINED BY CALCULATING THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE DANCERS IN SAID ROUTINE AS OF JANUARY 1ST OF THE YEAR IN WHICH THE COMPETITION IS HELD. IF THE AVERAGE AGE DOES NOT CALCULATE TO A WHOLE NUMBER, POSITIVE VIBES DANCE DROPS THE DECIMAL AND ROUNDS DOWN TO THE NEAREST WHOLE NUMBER. THE AGE DIVISIONS UNDER WHICH SOLOISTS COMPETE WILL ALSO BE DETERMINED BY THE DANCER’S AGE AS OF JANUARY 1ST OF THE YEAR IN WHICH THE COMPETITION IS BEING HELD.

BUMP RULE: THE AVERAGE AGE OF EACH ENTRY MUST NOT DROP MORE THAN ONE AGE DIVISION BELOW THE AGE OF THE OLDEST DANCER IN THE ROUTINE.

FOR EXAMPLE: THE AVERAGE AGE OF A ROUTINE IS QUALIFIED AS A JUNIOR ROUTINE BUT THE OLDEST DANCER IS A SENIOR, THE ROUTINE WILL COMPETE IN THE TEEN CATEGORY.

ALL ROUTINES WILL FALL UNDER THE SIZE DIVISION OF:

SOLO: 1 PERFORMER

DUET OR TRIO: 2 OR 3 PERFORMERS

SMALL GROUP: 4 TO 9 PERFORMERS

LARGE GROUP: 10 TO 19 PERFORMERS

LINE OR PRODUCTION: 20+ PERFORMERS

COMPETITION LEVELS/DIVISIONS

The following guidelines are suggestions to be used in determining the appropriate level placement of each dancer…

ADVANCED Level: This competition level is for competitive dancers who perform at an advanced technical level, and is recommended for dancers who have had approximately 6+ years experience.  All entries will be adjudicated, and will receive High Score Awards.

INTERMEDIATE Level: This competition level is for the intermediate dancers, and is recommended for dancers who have had approximately 2-5 years experience. Entries will be adjudicated, and will receive High Score Awards within this level.

NOVICE Level: This competition level division is for beginning dancers who have little or no experience competing. Dancers may only be considered ‘novice’ dancers for a maximum of 2 years.. Entries will be adjudicated, and will receive High Score Awards within this level.

**IMPORTANT** - Because no competition can possibly know how many hours a child dances or for how many years they have danced, it is left to the teachers own sound judgment when entering level placement for their students. It is at the judges discretion to move any routine that they feel is placed in a level below their ability to the level in which they feel is necessary. All judges decisions are FINAL. If the judges determine that a routine should be moved to a different level, and that level has already competed, the routine will then be eligible for adjudication only.

Groups - No more than 1/3 of the dancers in a routine may be a higher performance level than the level that the routine is entered. Example: If a routine has 12 dancers - 4 advanced, 4 intermediate & 4 novice, the routine should be placed in the ‘advanced’ level because 1/3 or more of the dancers are advanced.

* No dancer that is registered in the ‘advanced’ level will be permitted to dance in ANY ‘novice’ level routine. Note: Groups/Lines may be placed in a higher competition level than the average of the participants, but never a lower level.
